1. The Government of Japan announces today its decision to award the Fifth Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize as follows:

The Government of Japan has decided to award the Fifth Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize to Dr. Abdoulaye Djimdé (Republic of Mali) for Medical Research Category, and Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) for Medical Services Category.

PDNA organized a week-long leadership training for mid-career scientists DELGEME aspiring leaders and the program’s upper management. Using an adult learning format, the training was run by MDE business school in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire (mde.ci) in October 2019.

PDNA through its DELGEME (delgeme.org) project organized genetics training for National Malaria Control Programs staff in May 2018 in Bamako. 15 sub-Saharan African countries were represented. The training included a combination of lectures on genetics and molecular biology concepts as well as wet-lab experiments with Plasmodium DNA extraction, PCR amplification, gel running and results interpretation.
